Planned 43-unit affordable housing project in Lakewood wins $850,000 tax credit

A planned 43-unit affordable housing complex just south of Kendrick Lake in Lakewood this week received a tax credit that will enable the project to move forward.

Metro West Housing Solutions, an affordable housing agency that develops and manages apartment properties in Lakewood and Denver, was awarded the $848,405 low-income housing tax credit by the Colorado Housing and Finance Authority for its Sage Corner project at 9998 W. Jewell Ave.

The $12 million project, which is expected to open its doors in two years, will include a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom units priced for families making anywhere from 30 percent to 60 percent of area median income.

The award comes at a time when affordable housing is still in short supply in the Denver metro area and a recent forecast from Realtor.com showed continued high home price listings through 2019.
