Raleigh chef takes fast track to James Beard Awards status


In the past, the James Beard Award Foundation has thrown several nominations for its prestigious awards toward the Triangle. But this year, only two semifinalists hailed from the region, including just one chef.

Preeti Waas, chef and owner of Cheeni Indian Food Emporium in Raleigh, has been named as a semifinalist for the Best Chef: Southeast category. The nomination is her first, with her restaurant not quite to its first birthday yet.
