Kansas City ranks among the top 50 cities in the U.S. to start a new business, according to a new report.

The metro area ranks ranks No. 40 in the first Surge Cities Index released this week and put together by Inc. magazine and Startup Genome, of Oakland, Calif. Oklahoma City ranks No. 31, and St. Louis comes in at No. 33. No other cities closer to Kansas City made the list.
