Shriners adds to layoff head count as it closes a Tampa facility


Shriners Hospital for Children has made its final round of layoffs as it closes a Tampa facility.

The orthopedic treatment center will lay off 20 people on Sept. 30, according to an Aug. 1 letter filed to the state. It previously laid off 38 employees in April.

Shriners, which started caring for patients in 1985 on the University of South Florida's campus, was supposed to close on April 1. However, a select number of patients continued to be seen as the hospital searched for health care providers…
