State Street Corp.'s $3.5 billion deal with Brown Brothers Harriman and Co. has already been delayed, but it's now looking increasingly uncertain as it gets mired in the regulatory process.

Meanwhile, Intel Corp.'s attempt to raise funds via the initial public offering of a subsidiary have resulted in a valuation only a little higher (proportionally — we are still talking about a difference of about $300 million) than the price it originally paid to buy the business.
