Statoil’s name change becomes official


Norway-based energy giant Statoil ASA has officially changed its name to Equinor, according to a May 15 statement.

Shareholders voted on the change at the company's May 15 annual meeting. The company, which has its U.S. upstream headquarters in Houston, wanted a name that didn't include the word “oil” as part of a shift to become a broader energy company.
