The Elephant, beset by financial difficulties, will close Saturday in Mt. Vernon


The Elephant — a fine dining restaurant housed in the elegant former home of the Brass Elephant in Mount Vernon — will close to the public after a final dinner service on Saturday.

Owners Steven Rivelis, Linda Brown Rivelis and Mallory Staley announced Thursday night that the restaurant is closing so that they can fight a lawsuit from an investor who has moved to take control of The Elephant's property, a restored 19th century mansion at 924 N. Charles St.
