Tired of neutral? Ceiling wallpaper brings color, style to any room

Making home improvements doesn’t always require significant renovations — or major expense.

Sometimes small changes can make a big difference.

After years of white or beige walls, the maximalist decor trend is back. And leaving your ceiling plain can be a missed opportunity.

Ceilings are often overlooked in interior decor, but the right paint or wallpaper can take the look of any room to a new level.

For example, consider transforming an overlooked fifth wall in your home with wallpaper.

“Wallpaper is our go-to for high impact. We also consider the ‘fifth wall’ (ceiling) whether we paint it a fun color, wallpaper it, or add another texture, it’s not to be forgotten,” says Andrea Schumacher, who owns Andrea Schumacher Interiors in Denver and recently published “Vibrant Interiors: Living Large at Home,” a coffee table book available through her website or Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Serena & Lily.

Using wallpaper can add vibrancy, color, and character to any room. Experiment with unique prints and colors that show your style and create a focal point.

Peel-and-stick wallpaper easy to use

And dressing up your ceiling is an easy way to make a bold statement without breaking the bank — modern peel-and-stick wallpaper makes it easy for DIYers on a budget to make a significant change.

Installing peel-and-stick wallpaper is an excellent choice for those who want to easily and quickly revamp their space without making a long-term commitment. These wallpapers can be removed without harming the underlying surface.

The downside is that peel-and-stick paper may not last as long as traditional options.

Vinyl-based papers usually only have a lifespan of three years before they start peeling away, making them better suited for shorter-term projects rather than permanent renovations.

Elise LoSasso with The Agency Denver suggests adding wallpaper from floor to ceiling to a small space like a powder room. But in an ample space, you can add classic excellence using wallpaper touches on the top.

“Try touches of wallpaper rather than peel and stick it everywhere,” she says.

Statement ceilings

A statement ceiling is a perfect way to embrace maximalism’s resurgence by making the most of your interior style while creating something unique at the same time.
