Veterans seek to block 3M health care spinoff, citing earplug lawsuit costs


Plans by 3M Co. (NYSE: MMM) to spin out its $8 billion health care business into a separate public company are getting drawn into the rapidly expanding legal battle over 3M's military-grade earplugs, with a pair of U.S. military veterans suing to block the spinoff.

Bloomberg has a report on the lawsuit, which was filed Thursday in Pensacola, Fla., the same court where Maplewood-based 3M is facing more than 200,000 lawsuits over its Combat Arms earplugs. Veterans say the earplugs, made by 3M subsidiary…
