Welcome to Monday, loyal readers. Gov. Gavin Newsom has named Laphonza Butler to fill the U.S. Senate seat of Dianne Feinstein, who died last week at 90.

Butler, a former adviser to Kamala Harris, is president of EMILYs List, which calls itself "the nation's largest resource dedicated to electing Democratic pro-choice women to office."

We interviewed Butler in 2016, when she was president of the SEIU California State Council. Click here to read our 2016 interview with Laphonza Butler.
