Groceries earn the most credit card rewards

Grocery shoppers say they rack up rewards when they’re filling their fridge more than from any other purchases, a new study found.

A survey by CreditCards.com showed that 35 percent of rewards cardholders say they earn the most rewards on grocery purchases. People who live in the Midwest are most likely to say they earn the majority of their rewards from food shopping.

Travel is the second-most lucrative earning category at 27 percent, followed by gas (23 percent) and dining (14 percent).
