Over the past two weekends, the Sacramento Philharmonic & Opera sold out two performances as part of its Beethoven Festival in the nearly 2,400-seat Sacramento Community Center Theater.
Part of the sellout phenomenon was the popularity of Beethoven’s work, and part of it was the novelty of the re-creation — over two Saturdays — of Beethoven’s 1808 “monster concert” in Vienna, where six new pieces were performed in a single day, said the philharmonic's executive director Alice Sauro.
