Americans are holding on to $23 billion in unused gift cards


Remember those gift cards you received over the holidays? If you’re like millions of Americans, there’s a good chance at least one of them is still in the bottom of your purse or buried somewhere in a drawer. Or worse, just lost altogether.

Such is the fate of gift cards. Love them or hate them, they remain the most popular gift, especially among women, According to the National Retail Federation.

But nearly half — 47 percent — of the U.S. population has at least one unused gift card.…
