WASHINGTON – Tucson officials said a $50 million federal grant will allow the city to begin work on long-awaited “transformational” redevelopment of the Oracle Road and Miracle Mile area near downtown.
The grant for the so-called “Thrive in the ’05” plan – named for ZIP code 85705 – will mostly go toward the redevelopment of Tucson House, the largest public housing facility in the city and home to more than 450 seniors and residents with disabilities.

Higher home prices, low poverty rates correlate with greater housing instability, study finds
Mike Johnston, Denver’s new mayor, declared a homelessness emergency on his first day in office and set a goal of housing 1,000 people living without shelter in the city by the end of the year.
“We know it’s a crisis that has an impact on our economic recovery, it has an impact on public safety,” Johnston said Thursday, calling the issue a moral crisis during the “State of the City” luncheon held by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce.
Mayors of Aurora, Boulder and Colorado Springs joined him on stage in calling homelessness a top priority of their administrations, although they haven’t moved as forcefully as Johnston.
“We must solve these problems. Housing is the biggest issue,” said newly elected Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade, who is studying ways to bring more efficient home construction into the city and looking into what steps Johnston and other mayors in the state are taking.

Kids make up half of Missourians who lost Medicaid in 1st month of reviews
More than 32,000 Missourians – half of them children – lost Medicaid coverage in June during Missouri’s first round of eligibility checks after the COVID public health emergency.
According to a Department of Social Services announcement Thursday, out of the roughly 116,000 Medicaid recipients who had their eligibility checked in June, around 43% retained coverage, 28% lost coverage and 29% have their determinations pending.
