Family medicine physician Maurice Duggins is the first Black president of the Medical Society of Sedgwick County, but as he points out, it continues — and not begins — a rich history of MSSC integrating Black physicians into the medical community.

The Medical Society was formed in 1903 and by 1908 had already welcomed Black doctors into the organization. MSSC later helped Black doctors become part of the city's hospital systems. Duggins says he's proud to be part of that legacy.
