After Chef’d abruptly closed the box on its meal-kit business last week, the Los Angeles area company’s assets have been picked up by a food-technology firm with a meal-kit business of its own.

True Food Innovations, a subsidiary of Newport Beach, California-based True Family Enterprises, has acquired Chef’d’s plant, property, equipment, brand and intangible assets from the company’s lender, who was unnamed.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar Inc. is expanding in both the physical and digital realms.

The Austin-based chain is leasing up space around Texas and has also signed on to deliver its food to consumers through DoorDash Inc. The full Hopdoddy menu will be available, including the Goodnight Burger piled high with caramelized onions and barbecue sauce, the vegetarian-friendly Magic Shroom and the Classic Burger — recently named one of the 101 best burgers in the U.S. by The Daily Mail.

Wall Street was pleased with Grubhub (NYSE: GRUB) Wednesday after the company posted solid second quarter earnings results, beating estimates on both revenue and EPS.

The Chicago food delivery company did $240 million in revenue last quarter, up more than 50 percent from the same time last year. It processed $1.2 billion in gross food sales last quarter, and saw an average of more than 423,000 orders per day.
