Suburban Philadelphia homebuying boomed during the pandemic and continues to stay hot, but the city's surrounding counties are also experiencing one of the most competitive rental markets in the country. One Pennsylvania city ranks second.

With a longer pre-development agreement on deck, Live and Ride KC Partners LLC looks to advance construction drawings, project financing and other steps for a 20-plus-story transit-oriented high-rise at 10th and Main streets.

The proposal includes 265 housing units, many of them reserved for seniors, including a unique 60-unit project that would mix together seniors, foster and adoptive families, and young adults exiting the foster system.

“This line just got stuck in my head: 'We made magic.' I think we took a house that was in pretty serious need of some attention, and that people thought maybe it would be torn down, and we made it something that either of us would be so proud to live in,” one of the partners behind the renovation said.

Work is underway on around 150 single-family lots in the new Cedar Creek Estates subdivision, which spans the town of Polk and the village of Slinger in Washington County. The developer is Kevin Zimmer of GCAM LLC.
