Actress Melanie Griffith has sold her Aspen Mountain retreat — a seven-bedroom, eight-bathroom log house on 2 acres — for $4 million after originally listing it for sale in 2015.

Griffith, who bought the 7,391-square-foot house for $3.55 million in 2002 with her then-husband, Antonio Banderas, initially advertised both the home and its neighboring guesthouse, historic cabin and 12 acres for $9.9 million in 2015.

With redevelopment work in full swing, officials with Denver’s National Western Center are looking for partners that will help them deliver on lofty goals for turning the grounds best known for hosting the Stock Show every January into an international epicenter for regenerative agriculture, Western American culture and more.

The “Cultivate” campaign officially went live on at nationalwesterncenter.com/cultivate Wednesday morning. The public engagement effort, which runs through April 20, invites business owners, nonprofit organizations and interested folks to pitch ideas for programs, events and more at National Western Center and become a partner in carrying out those plans on the campus and online.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously ruled that foreclosure lawyers are not debt collectors, ending a Colorado man’s years-long effort to gut the state’s century-old public trustee foreclosure system.

As such, the attorneys representing Wells Fargo Bank in its efforts to foreclose on Dennis Obduskey’s home in Bailey are not subject to comply with a broad array of consumer protections mandated by the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, such as proving the bank actually has the right to foreclose.

The 9-0 decision in Obduskey v. McCarthy & Holthus LLP primarily keeps intact nonjudicial foreclosure processes that occur in Colorado and 32 other states.

“My interest was not screwing up the law for the entire country,” Obduskey told The Denver Post in a telephone interview shortly after the court’s opinion was released. “But I’m unfazed in my commitment to ultimately fix this problem.”

Less than a month after opening a “community center” in Larimer Square to hear people’s hopes and concerns for the future of the storied block, the property’s owner has announced none of the historic buildings there will be demolished to make way for new development.

For some historic preservation advocates, though, vowing not to alter buildings is just the first step to protecting the square’s historic character.

Larimer Square owner Jeff Hermansonand his development partners with Denver firm Urban Villages have held fast to the position that new construction along the1400 block of Larimer Street is essential to keeping the aging buildings there functional and accessible into the future. The birthplace of Denver in the 1850s, the block today is populated with posh shops, upscale restaurants and boutique office space, its 20 historic buildings interspersed with a handful of small-scale modern structures.

Amazon passed by the Front Range in its hunt for a second headquarters, but Checkr, a San Francisco company with technology that speeds up background checks, is giving Denver serious consideration for its HQ2.

“Denver made our new office shortlist for two key reasons: First and foremost, the city has a strong talent pool and a dynamic economy. Second, it’s an attractive destination for workers wishing to relocate for a new job,” the company confirmed in a statement.

The Colorado Economic Development Commission on Thursday morning approved $27.8 million in job growth incentive tax credits for Checkr, which used the code name Project Validate, in return for it hiring up to 1,472 people in the state over the next eight years.

The company, founded in 2014, has venture capital backing, but can’t easily grow as it wants to in the Bay Area. The bulk of future hiring is expected to come in whatever city lands HQ2. Texas and Georgia are also in the running.
