National consulting firm acquires engineering firm Big Red Dog
West Palm Beach, Florida-based consulting firm Wantman Group Inc. acquired Austin-based engineering firm Big Red Dog Inc., which also has offices in Houston, Sugar Land, Dallas and San Antonio.

Commercial property manager adopts new brand after merger
PM Realty Group’s Hawaii office has rebranded as Madison Marquette Real Estate Services with the start of this year.
The Texas-based commercial real estate company completed its merger with Washington, D.C.-based Madison Marquette in June. Terms were not disclosed.

Rents in Phoenix climbed more than 7 percent in 2018, a growth rate eclipsed by only one other city in the country.
In its year-end analysis, RentCafe pegged rent growth in Phoenix at 7.7 percent among large cities in 2018. Only Las Vegas saw rents rise faster than Phoenix among large cities for the year. Sin City rents climbed 7.9 percent.

Project to watch in 2019: Fire Blocks District
The Windsor Companies, a Columbus firm, took over the Fire Blocks project in mid-2018. The group will transform a mostly vacant city block into a mix of commercial, housing and office space. The first phase of the project is $50 million.

Personal injury and class action lawyer John Ruiz paid $10.5 million for a waterfront mansion in Coral Gables.
PGE LLC, managed by Earl W. Powell, sold the 10,351-square-foot home at 80 Leucadendra Drive, in the exclusive Gables Estates neighborhood, to Ruiz. The seller was represented by Liz Hogan of Compass Florida. Dennis Carvajal of One Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyer.
