Bay Area and state legislation intending to relax rules on accessory dwelling units, or ADUs — more commonly called “granny units” — seem to be gaining traction among lawmakers.

The Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee yesterday approved Senate Bill 831, authored by State Sen. Bob Wieckowksi (D-Fremont). The bill will be heard in the Assembly Local Government Committee next week, and if approved, will be sent to the Assembly Appropriations Committee.

The median price of single-family homes, townhomes and condos is on the rise in Central Florida compared to last May, according to a new Florida Realtors report.

The number of single-family homes sold in the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford metropolitan statistical area in May was 3,261, 4.9 percent less than the year-ago period. However, the median price of sold homes is on the rise. In May, the median home price was $269,900, up 12.1 percent compared to May 2017, according to the report.

A popular tour of newly re-envisioned homes in German Village returns this weekend.

There are a dozen stops on this year's Haus und Garten Tour, the 59th put on in German Village. They are a diverse set, including the 150-year-old St. Mary's church, and many of the homes feature modern living and design built into the historic properties, the result of recent renovations.

The large complex Caterpillar Inc. will soon vacate in South Milwaukee is under contract for sale to Reich Brothers LLC, a New York company with about 5 million square feet in holdings that include property in Wisconsin.

Company co-CEO Jonathan Reich confirmed the contract to buy the property, which has about 29 acres of office and manufacturing buildings between Rawson and Milwaukee avenues. He said the sale is scheduled to close in the last half of July, and declined to comment on future plans…
