Colorado AG opposes investor payout before grocers’ megamerger


Colorado’s attorney general is urging a Washington state court judge to block a $4 billion dividend proposed to be paid to shareholders ahead of the merger of U.S. grocery giants Kroger Co. and Albertsons.

Phil Weiser, the state’s top lawyer, on Thursday made public arguments that the payout to shareholders before the proposed $24.6 billion combination of two of Colorado’s largest grocery sellers would risk damaging the businesses and shouldn’t happen.
