First Avenue buying St. Paul’s Fitzgerald Theater from MPR


Minneapolis iconic nightclub First Avenue has a deal to buy St. Paul’s Fitzgerald Theater, the longtime the home of now defunct "A Prairie Home Companion" show.

The agreement was announced in a press release by First Avenue Productions and Minnesota Public Radio, which has owned the 1,050-seat theater since 1980.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed in the release. Ramsey County values the theater at just over $1.4 million. Since MPR is a nonprofit, it doesn’t pay property taxes. That should…
