Hawaii Supreme Court agrees to hear counties’ case on proposed constitutional amendment


The Hawaii Supreme Court on Thursday granted a request by the state’s four counties to schedule an oral argument on whether a proposed constitutional amendment on next month’s ballot allowing the Legislature to place a “surcharge” on investment property to support public education is unclear and misleading.

The high court, ruling on a petition for extraordinary writ seeking pre-election relief filed Sept. 26, scheduled an oral argument for Oct. 18 on the case.
