Home truth: Owner data reveals numbers aren’t always what they seem


Data can tell stories. But, it can also have multiple stories to tell.

Last week, LendingTree released a report noting that Memphis had the lowest black homeownership rate among the 50 largest cities in the U.S.

The report looked at the Memphis area’s black homeownership by subtracting the percentage of the metro’s black residents (46.5 percent) from the percentage of black owner-occupied homes (34.7 percent).
