Milwaukee among U.S. metros with lowest percentage of black homeowners, study finds


The homeownership rate among black Americans both locally and across the U.S. is disproportionately lower than that of other racial groups, according to a new study from online marketplace LendingTree.

In greater Milwaukee, 16.37% of the population identifies as black, but just 7.5% of owner-occupied homes in the area are black owned. The 9.22% difference makes Milwaukee and its surrounding counties third on a list of metro areas with the lowest percentages of black homeowners compared with population.…
