Layoffs hit Durham as Medicago rethinks plant-based Covid vaccine


A Canadian biotech is cutting 62 jobs connected to a manufacturing facility in Durham that played a key role in producing the company's plant-based Covid-19 vaccine.

Medicago informed the North Carolina Department of Commerce of the layoffs in a letter Wednesday. The layoffs, which will be effective Dec. 26, include 60 employees who work in various roles at the company's facility on Triangle Drive, as well as two remote employees who report into the site.
