Missouri lawmakers (don’t) get a taste of life under new gift restrictions


A regular event in which Jefferson City restaurants wine and dine state lawmakers has been cancelled thanks to a new amendment limiting gifts to elected officials.

The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce said Friday that it has canceled its Taste of Jefferson City event, citing limits in newly passed Amendment 1, The Jefferson City News Tribune reports. The event, which has been held for decades, introduces lawmakers to offerings from the capital city’s restaurants.
