Mondelēz International Inc. is buying energy bar company Clif Bar & Co. for $2.9 billion.
The Chicago-based snacking giant (Nasdaq: MDLZ) said the purchase of the Emeryville, California-based company's Clif, Luna, and Clif Kid brands will expand its global snack bar business to more than $1 billion.
The $2.9 billion purchase includes "additional contingent earnout consideration," Mondelēz said.
