Philadelphia woman charged with defrauding investors out of $100 million


An investment fund manager is facing criminal fraud charges after authorities say she lied to investors and misused more than $100 million of their funds over the past three years.

The U.S. District Attorney's Office in Newark, New Jersey, announced Tuesday that Brenda Smith, 59 of Philadelphia, was arrested on one count of securities fraud and four counts of wire fraud in connection with the alleged investment scheme.
