REVIEW: Cincinnati Opera’s ‘Madame Butterfly’ dazzles as virtual reality fantasy


Before a note was played in Cincinnati Opera’s new production of “Madame Butterfly,” which had its world premiere on July 22 in Music Hall, Pinkerton put on his virtual reality headset, picked up his controllers and settled into a chair. The pantomime continued as Puccini’s music began to swell in the orchestra. Soon Pinkerton and the audience members were swept into a new realm of dazzling colors and mesmerizing emotion as the story unfolded.
