Salem seeks developer for former courthouse next to commuter station


City officials in Salem are looking for ideas to redevelop two historic buildings — each over 150 years old — and a nearby parking lot right next to the busiest commuter rail station outside of Boston.

On Wednesday, the city's redevelopment authority put out a request for qualifications — a first step toward choosing a developer — for two buildings that span 55,100 square feet, with an option to also build on a 36,600 square foot lot across the street.
