Shapiro urges Supreme Court to allow for UPMC-Highmark extension


Attorney General Josh Shapiro late Tuesday urged the Supreme Court to allow for modification and extension of the UPMC-Highmark Consent Decree beyond June 30.

Shapiro had vowed to appeal after the Commonwealth Court ruled last week that he had to go to the Supreme Court on an extension since the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in 2018 that the Consent Decree ran out June 30. Shapiro's petition to the Supreme Court asked if its earlier ruling tied the hands of Commonwealth Court.
