St. Louis hospitals see success in recruitment programs, but know it’s not enough to address worker shortages


The use of travel nurses is down, local nurses are leaving the profession at less alarming rates and new employees are being recruited who have never worked in health care. But even if local health systems maintain the current rate of retention, projections show they’ll still employ only half the workforce they need over the next 20 years.
