Sutter Health will pay $30 million to settle overcharging lawsuit

Sutter Health has agreed to a $30 million settlement to resolve allegations that it up-charged Medicare patient bills, the U.S. Department of Justice said Friday.

The overcharging scheme saw health plans and providers "upcode" for services they provided to patients on Medicare Advantage plans, according to the DOJ. Sutter Health originally faced allegations that it provided false information about the health status of Medicare Advantage patients.
