Panera Bread Co. is adding to its appetite for innovation — and a Boston-based artificial intelligence startup is helping make it happen.

The Missouri-based bakery-cafe operator is starting to use new AI technology to take orders from customers in the drive-thru lanes at its restaurants. Panera said it planned testing the technology on Monday at two of its locations in upstate New York.
