This big Warriors backer now is shooting for biotech


The head of one of the world's largest ecommerce conglomerates — whose company is a major partner of the Golden State Warriors — is charging into biotech with an investment in a late-stage cancer drug development company.

Billionaire Hiroshi "Mickey" Mikitani, who placed a major center for Japan's Rakuten Inc. in San Mateo, headlined a $284 million Series C financing for San Diego's Rakuten Aspyrian and plans to move most of the company's 100 jobs to San Mateo, where it now has 10 employees.
