UnitedHealthcare to reduce prior-authorization, paperwork requirements


Prior authorization paperwork is a common headache for doctors and patients. UnitedHealthcare, the nation's biggest insurer, says it's listening and will reduce the number of times it requires that extra step.

The Wall Street Journal has a report on the plan by Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH), which plans to significantly reduce the number of procedures and devices requiring prior authorization starting in the third quarter.
