After two years of slipping, the Triangle is back on the rise in the annual rankings of best places to live by U.S. News and World Report.

The Triangle jumped three slots and other North Carolina cities were lauded as well Tuesday as U.S. News and World Report released its annual survey of the best places to live.

The Triangle checked in at No. 10 after ranking No. 13 last year.

The new rankings mark a return to the Top 10 for the Triangle, which ranked No. 7 in 2017 and No. 4 in 2016.

As temperatures were on the rise, Nashville-area home sales fell in March.

According to the latest data from Greater Nashville Realtors, there were 3,237 closings in the region last month, a 6 percent decline from March 2018.

Single-family homes sold for a median price of $305,000, up from $297,915 a year ago. Condo units sold for a median price of $223,000, up from $218,600.

The market's inventory of available homes, condos and lots stood at 11,276 at the end of March, up from 8,521 a year ago.

Another restaurant at The Waites has shut down.

Birmingham’s only Farm Burger location closed Sunday, April 7, at the mixed-use development in Southside, according to AL.com.

The grass-fed and locally sourced burger restaurant had opened there on Oct. 9, 2017.

The Georgia-based restaurant has another Alabama location in Huntsville but it plans to open a new location in Birmingham “in the near future,” according to a company statement.

An activist investor has offered to buy Nashville-based restaurant company J. Alexander’s Holdings Inc. in a bid valued at $186 million.

Nashville Post reports that the offer came Monday from Ohio-based Ancora Advisors, which controls nearly 9 percent of J. Alexander’s (NYSE: JAX). The value is based on an offer to pay $11.75 per share of J. Alexander’s. Shares had closed Friday at $10.48.

J. Alexander’s did not respond to a request for comment from the Post.

A local company is breathing new life into the former Silvertron Restaurant location in the Forest Park neighborhood.

In early fall, Jay Draper and Mark Thompson plan to open a café and new store in the space, which sits next to their store and greenhouse, Shoppe, according to Bham Now.

The Roastery Coffee Kitchen has opened its third location — its biggest one yet by far.

The new flagship location is attached to the H-E-B grocery store at 5895 San Felipe St. in Houston and held its grand opening on April 8, according to a press release.
