When the Economic Development Corp. of Kansas City’s lease in Town Pavilion was up for renewal, the organization decided to take it as an opportunity to find new digs and reorganize its working space to better suit employees' needs.

The organization moved into the fourth floor of the 3Y building at 300 Wyandotte St. at the end of June. The EDC fills about 8,600 square feet.

When its lease is up at the end of June 2020, the organization will move from 1200 Grand Blvd.

This is the sixth Eastside acquisition for the buyer, bringing its portfolio there to nearly 600,000 square feet.

Austin FC will break ground on its stadium in about two weeks in the most visible sign yet of Major League Soccer coming to the Texas capital.

The team will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the $242 million North Austin soccer stadium on Sept. 5, officials announced at an Aug. 21 event. The stadium site, just south of The Domain, is on track to host the league's 27th team beginning in the spring of 2021.

Vacant and abandoned properties could be turned over to new owners for repair and redevelopment sooner under proposed state legislation.

A major problem facing cities and counties that want to revitalize neighborhoods where there are a lot of abandoned homes is that the municipalities have to wait until taxes haven't been paid on the properties for two years to foreclose on them. The state Senate and Assembly this year passed legislation to reduce the waiting period to one year.

Joe Padilla, who has led REBIC since 2011, said this week that he has accepted a new position at Smith Douglas Homes, a Woodstock, Georgia-based homebuilder with a Charlotte division. Padilla's last day with REBIC is Sept. 6.
