A joint venture between StonebridgeCarras and Chicago-based Creek Lane Capital announced Wednesday it has purchased 5 acres of land in Alexandria for its Hoffman Town Center project, allowing the companies to move forward on construction on the 1 million-square-foot mixed-use development anchored by a Wegmans grocery store in early 2019.

State Sen. Scott Wiener's bill designed to add 3 million housing units along transit hubs in Oakland, San Diego, San Jose and Sacramento was derailed by a committee vote.

Through the first three months of 2018, new home sales are slightly off the pace from a year ago, when sales were the strongest in a decade. Here are some other takeaways from the newest report from the North State Building Industry Association.
