Five-alarm fire burns through townhouse complex under construction in West Oakland


The Oakland Fire Department battled a huge blaze into the night Tuesday as developer City Ventures’ nearly completed townhouse development in West Oakland was enveloped in fire.

Officials said that the fire began around 2 a.m. and left 55 units — four of six, four-story townhouses — completely leveled, KTVU reports.

Located at the intersection of West Grand Avenue and Filbert Street, the building was part of City Ventures’ Ice House project, which had begun sales of the homes in mid-April.…
