Food: Blue Bunny ice cream brand sold, but will remain independent


Italy-based Ferrero Group is buying ice cream maker Wells Enterprises, which makes the popular Blue Bunny brand.

Wells will remain based at its Iowa headquarters. Wells also makes Bomb Pop and Halo Top.

Ferrero has been trying to get into the U.S. market, with the purchases of Nestle's candy business, Keebler and Famous Amos brands cookies and confectioner Ferrera, Food Dive reports.

It is best known for Nutella and the Ferrero Rocher holiday treats.
