Vertex Pharmaceuticals fires executive for ‘personal behavior’


Vertex Pharmaceuticals fired one of its longstanding executives after an internal investigation revealed he had violated the company's code of conduct with undisclosed "personal behavior," the company disclosed Wednesday.

The Boston-based biotech company (Nasdaq: VRTX) terminated the employment of Ian Smith, the chief operating officer and interim chief financial officer, following what it called a prompt and comprehensive investigation assisted by law firm WilmerHale.
