ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — Bruce Deifik, the Colorado developer who lost a fortune running a struggling Atlantic City casino for six months, was killed in a single-car crash in Denver. He was 64.

Deifik had been driving home Sunday from a Colorado Rockies baseball game in his hometown of Denver, his lawyer, Paul O’Gara, said Monday.

The medical examiner is still investigating what might have caused the crash, O’Gara said, including the possibility Deifik suffered a medical crisis behind the wheel.

The Denver Medical Examiner Office said Monday afternoon that Deifik was found dead at the scene of a “single-car, low-speed auto crash.” It said an autopsy has been completed, and the cause of death remains under investigation.

Deifik was in the process of turning over his majority ownership of the casino to New York hedge fund Luxor Capital at the time of his death. That transaction has not yet closed but is likely to be completed soon.

The casino is the former Revel property that Deifik bo..

LAKEWOOD — The people will finally have their say on a controversial growth control measure that has spawned a lengthy court battle and even pressured city leaders to change the charter of Colorado’s fifth-largest city.

The Lakewood City Council on Monday agreed to send the Strategic Growth Initiative, a proposal to limit annual growth in new residential construction to 1 percent of housing stock in the city, to a special election on July 2. The council had the option of putting the measure into law immediately Monday night.

The mail-only election is expected to cost the city $300,000.

“It’s encouraging that it finally seems to be coming to fruition,” said Cathy Kentner, the Lakewood resident who first brought the measure forward nearly two years ago. “It has taken a lot of patience and perseverance.”

It also took a vote earlier this year of Lakewood’s elected leaders to change the city charter so that a citizen initiative can continue to move forward even if it faces a legal chall..

Melanie Griffith’s log cabin in Aspen sold for $4 million.

The 7,391-square-foot estate at 46 Lower Hurricane Road was decorated by Griffith, who earned the Golden Globe Award for best actress for “Working Girl” (1989) and landed her first lead role in the 1991 drama “Paradise.”

Griffith’s former residence features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the interior with natural light and are a lens to Aspen Highlands Ridge. Decks wrap the house that has a stone fireplace as its focal point and a gourmet kitchen, billiards room and a wine cellar among other amenities.

“A 9,000-bottle wine cellar,” said Carrie Wells, a broker with Coldwell Banker Mason Morse Real Estate, who represented the seller. “There’s a very large stone fireplace that separates the dining and living room, and outrageous views.”

Attorney General Josh Shapiro late Tuesday urged the Supreme Court to allow for modification and extension of the UPMC-Highmark Consent Decree beyond June 30.

Shapiro had vowed to appeal after the Commonwealth Court ruled last week that he had to go to the Supreme Court on an extension since the Supreme Court ruled unanimously in 2018 that the Consent Decree ran out June 30. Shapiro's petition to the Supreme Court asked if its earlier ruling tied the hands of Commonwealth Court.
