Mae Velma’s owner plans new catfish restaurant

The owner of a corned beef restaurant near 76th Street and Capitol Drive in Milwaukee plans to open a new eatery nearby focused on catfish dishes.

Tyron Smith and his wife, Tonya, opened Mae Velma’s Corned Beef about a year ago at 4115 N. 76th St. The restaurant is named for his late mother. When a kitchen that operates within a nearby gas station at 7609 W. Capitol Drive became vacant, Smith said he saw an opportunity to open a second business with a new concept.
