OHSU study finds heartburn often is misdiagnosed and mistreated


Heartburn, a very common woe among American adults, is often misdiagnosed and mistreated.

New research from Oregon Health & Science University could change that. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that patients whose heartburn symptoms persist even with medication may actually be suffering from other disorders and could benefit from esophageal surgery.
