Here’s how Ohio fared at the Great American Beer Festival
It was a record year for Ohio at the annual Great American Beer Festival in Denver.
Buckeye State breweries hauled in 14 medals over the weekend, though the bulk of those wins came from Cleveland and Cincinnati area breweries. Central Ohio was home to just one winner with Columbus Brewing Co.’s Melk Stout taking home a bronze in the Sweet Stout or Cream Stout category.
The highest accolades were for Cincinnati-based Brink Brewing Co., which picked up a gold medal in the Sweet Stout or Cream…
CBF Morning Run: Doing math instead of watching OSU football, celebrating Pink Floyd and baseball doubleheaders, and sipping a Quebecker Saison
Happy Tuesday morning, Columbus.
The Ohio State University football team has played four games this season and I have yet to watch a single down.
Yes, I understand that not watching every second of every game is sacrilege to many scarlet and gray faithful.
But really, what did I really miss? Let's recap:
Game 1: Ohio State beat Oregon State 77-31.
Game 2: Ohio State beat Rutgers 52-3.
Game 3: Ohio State beat Texas Christian 40-28.
(For the first three games, an assistant coach was paid an…

Louder than Life festival canceled because of rain, flooding
This weekend's Louder than Life festival at Champions Park has been canceled because of continuing rain and deteriorating conditions.
The soggy conditions also forced the cancellation of part of the festival's sister event, Bourbon and Beyond, last weekend.
“Delivering a great experience for our fans will always be our top priority — but that great experience starts with safety,” Danny Hayes, CEO of festival producer Danny Wimmer Presents, said in a news release.

Covington’s MainStrasse Village Association to declare bankruptcy
The MainStrasse Village Association intends to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy after a long history of putting on some of Covington's most popular festivals, WKRC reports.
Representatives of the association blame bad weather at this year's Oktoberfest, Maifest and Goettafest for the lower attendance and revenue losses. In a news release, the organization said Oktoberfest losses alone were greater than $100,000 and said it was “a devastating blow to the organization.”

REVIEW: French program offers festive kickoff to CSO season
Louis Langrée’s light-hearted, all-French program was fitting for a gala opening night of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s new season.
The kickoff to the season Saturday in Music Hall included a formal fundraising dinner beforehand. Later, the entire audience was invited to a free “after-party” with dancing in the ballroom.
That festive atmosphere carried over to the program, which brought two of the orchestra’s principal players, harpist Gillian Benet Sella and oboist Dwight Parry,…
